WhatsApp Testing New UI for Status Menu
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is currently experimenting with a new user interface (UI) for its status menu. This update highlights both stories and channels while also allowing users to preview stories without opening them. Currently, the new interface is being tested on Android smartphones, with a similar update expected for iPhones shortly.
The updated status bar is currently available in the beta version of WhatsApp (v2.24.4.23). According to reports from WABetaInfo, this feature is still in the experimental stage. The goal is to make it easier for users to distinguish between stories and channels. The status now appears in a rectangular format, providing users with a quick preview of the content. Additionally, the new UI allows users to subscribe to or access specific channels more efficiently.

UI Evolution
WhatsApp is known for regularly tweaking its UI. However, any new interface is only introduced if it’s deemed suitable for regular use or if it creates space for a new feature. The introduction of channels on the status bar initially cluttered the UI, requiring users to hide seen stories to access channels quickly. With the upcoming change, the company aims to address this issue and offer a more modernized status menu that facilitates easy access to both stories and channels.
The meta owned messaging app provides access to beta versions for both Android and iPhones through the Google Play Store and the App Store, respectively. This allows enthusiasts to test upcoming features ahead of their official release. Moreover, it enables the company to gather feedback and evaluate new features before making them available to the general public.
